Running out of connects especially without landing a gig can discourage your consistency on submitting proposals.
Find the few things I consider before sending a proposal.
◾Client’s information: notice red flags by reading ‘about the client’. Check the number of jobs they’ve posted and compare it to their number of hires. Some clients don’t hire after posting, and so you can consider saving your connects for some more hiring clients.
◾Client’s with unverified payment: I’ve come to notice that most of these clients are either testing how it works or just something else because I’ve seen most cases where they’ll have 20 to 50+ proposals sent with 0 interviewing in past 6 days. If you must apply to any of these jobs, the job description must be clear and of course requires low number of connects 😒
◾Number of connects needed and the number of proposals the job has received: How much chance will you stand when the job requires like 6 connects and has received 20 to 50+ proposals? It’s possible to win the job but the chance is slim and there’s always another job you’ll have an early advantage to apply to in the next few minutes and I think you consider that.
◾Jobs with shoddy descriptions: most jobs with unclear and scanty details are not real. But If the client has hired and spend a substantial amount of money on Upwork, you can apply to them (that’s why you should always read about the client)
◾Number of invites and interviewing: some clients choose to invite a number of freelancers to submit proposals to their jobs. It’s good to check how many invites was sent and how many are interviewing at the moment. When a good number of invites are interviewing already, should you spend your connects on this job?
◾Not having some requirements the client marks: Some clients want freelancers with rising talent badge, some job success percentage, specific locations, Language proficiency etc. Upwork will let you know when you are not meeting up to any of these requirements. Would you want to submit proposals nonetheless? Then there should be something you’re sure the client can’t resist about you otherwise save your connects.
